Mission Statement
Kufiya Comedy is a nonprofit arts and entertainment organization dedicated to empowering underrepresented artists through comedy, storytelling, theater, film, and community-centered cultural experiences.
Our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for artist development by providing platforms where emerging and established creatives can refine their craft, share their stories, connect with audiences, and build sustainable careers in the arts. Through live performances, theater productions, festivals, educational programming, creative collaborations, and cultural events, we help artists gain visibility, develop professionally, and contribute to a more vibrant and representative creative landscape.
Rooted in the experiences and traditions of SWANA, MENA, and other historically underrepresented communities, we use humor, storytelling, and the performing arts to foster cultural connection, encourage creative expression, and expand access to the arts for both artists and audiences.
We believe that when artists are given the resources, opportunities, and support to thrive, they strengthen communities, broaden perspectives, and create spaces where people can come together through laughter, dialogue, and shared human experiences.

Meet The Team
MARENA RIYAD
Founder & Artistic Director
Marena leads the creative vision of Kufiya Comedy, overseeing artist development, talent curation, programming, and community partnerships. As a comedian, actress, playwright, and producer, she is passionate about creating opportunities for underrepresented artists and building spaces where storytelling, culture, and comedy can thrive.
ALEX HANSON
Co-Founder & Producing Director
Alex oversees production logistics, operations, and event execution for Kufiya Comedy. With a background in performance, theatre production, and language studies, he helps bring creative projects to life while ensuring productions run smoothly both behind the scenes and on stage.
HANNA LAMM
Director of Operations & Partnerships
Hanna supports Kufiya Comedy's operations, partnerships, and audience engagement efforts. Drawing from her background in supply chain and operations management, combined with her passion for the arts, travel, and community building, she helps cultivate meaningful connections that strengthen the organization's reach and impact.
